Tuberculosis (TB) and Hypertension

Tuberculosis (TB) and Hypertension
Tuberculosis (TB) and Hypertension
Patients with tuberculosis (TB) have a higher proportion of hypertension than controls without TB. Multiple cohort studies have shown an increased risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease following TB. Hypertension is associated with systemic inflammation, including increased levels of interleukin (IL)-1, IL-18, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α. Although higher levels of pro inflammatory mediators are associated with tissue destruction in preclinical models and with a higher risk of advanced disease in patients with TB.
