Use of Doxycycline antibiotic in Pregnancy |
Doxycycline crosses the placenta to reach the fetus and are also excreted in milk. As a result of chelation with calcium, doxycycline are bound to and damage the growing bones and teeth including the discoloration. To avoid deposition in growing bones or teeth, doxycycline should be avoided for pregnant women and for children under 8 years of age.
So if you are prescribed an antibiotic in pregnancy, make sure that is should not be doxycycline.
